Hayley Erin Previews What’s Next for Claire on Y&R (EXCLUSIVE)
When Claire first surfaced in Genoa City, plenty of The Young & The Restless fans could tell she was hiding something. But after it was revealed that she was working with her Aunt Jordan to destroy the Newman family, Claire learned that her aunt had been lying to her and she was, in fact, a member of that family herself! Discovering she was Cole and Victoria’s daughter was a turning point for Claire, and she became determined to turn her life around.
“I wasn’t sure she would be redeemed,” Hayley Erin admitted to Soaps In Depth of her alter ego. “It’s been a real joy getting to know Claire and I get the scripts in my E-mail inbox and I can’t wait to pop ‘em open and see what’s going on because it’s taken so many twists and turns that I’m still on the edge of my seat.”
Although Claire’s attempt to live a normal life was interrupted by Jordan kidnapping her and leaving her for dead, now that she’s free, it’s time for her to rebuild her life. Or in this case, build it from scratch, really!
“There was a great scene with Victoria where she asked, ‘What would you have studied in school?’’ Erin recalled. “And Claire goes, ‘I don’t know.’ For me, that was a really big moment of this kind of realization that she has the entire world of possibilities of who she can be and the things that she can explore now… her interests. So it’s really fun.
“I’m loving seeing how she’s going to take on new and interesting possibilities,” she continued. “I think her interest in Harrison and being a nanny and finding love, it’s really healing for Claire to have these connections with these children where she can experience that kind of adult/child connection. Even though she’s on the other side of it now, it’s quite healing for her to see children who are made to feel safe and connected to and looked after.”
Of course, while Kyle and Harrison would love to have Claire be the boy’s new nanny, Summer will definitely not approve of the idea. And Jordan is not as dead as Victor has claimed. So there are still some obstacles to Claire living a relatively normal life. Keep watching Y&R to see what happens next!
