When Soaps In Depth chatted with Christopher Cousins about how his new character of Dr. Alan Laurent could help Ashley on The Young & The Restless, it almost sounded like he’d already wrapped up his run on the soap. However, he revealed that wasn’t actually true!

“No, they’re keeping me on, which I’m very grateful for,” Cousins confided. “I don’t know for how long or what, but I’m doing at least some episodes through May, it looks like. I don’t know what I can say about that, so I won’t say anything.

“But I mean, I’m very pleasantly surprised,” he added. “Because I thought it would be… I think originally said you’d do 10 episodes or so in April. So the fact that they’re continuing is a nice little bonus. So I’m very happy.”

Cousins made his daytime debut back on Another World in 1986, and has also appeared on As The World Turns and One Life to Live (as well as in countless primetime series). But he’s looking forward to working with more of the Y&R cast as his run continues.

“Eileen [Davidson, Ashley] is someone that I’ve always thought was amazing, so that was a great opportunity,” the actor said of his new co-star. “But Trevor [St. John, Tucker] and I had one small scene together… and I really enjoyed it because it was a very different scene. I’d love to work with him, just more stuff with him. But it’s great working with Beth [Maitland, Traci] and Peter [Bergman, Jack] and they’re all really, really cool guys. So it’s great.”

Given the depths of Ashley’s mental issues, Alan could be needed for quite some time. So keep watching to see how long Cousins sticks around Genoa City!
