Social media has become a great way for stars to stay in touch with their fans, but unfortunately, the anonymity of the internet also gives criminals the ability to pretend to be soap stars so they can scam their fans. After issuing an apology to his fans for spreading misinformation during a previous Instagram Live, General Hospital alum Ryan Paevey (ex-Nathan) went back on Instagram later that day to inform his fans: “Life is shifting direction.”

“So as of this morning, I am gonna begin to retreat from public social media starting with the deletion of my public Facebook page, which I just did,” he explained. “Scammers are everywhere and they are incessant. My managers and I have been on the phone today with a lady who got scammed out of a significant amount of money and I just can’t do it anymore. I can’t be in the space. Social media platforms don’t care. They’re not helping us get rid of them. And there’s no way to educate the masses on how scammers operate or prove that I’m the real me or anything like that.

“So the only thing I can do is leave the space entirely,” Paevey continued. “If you’re speaking to someone on Facebook or on WhatsApp or on Telegram or a private E-mail account or anything like that, you are being scammed. Please stop. I will not have a presence on any of those platforms anymore.”

A few hours later, the GH alum popped back on with another update. “So the next step,” he announced. “I just deactivated my Twitter account. It is 4:30-ish or so Pacific Standard Time, Thursday, June 20. So, if you’re talking to anybody on Twitter after today, it’s not me. Sorry.”

As Paevey is using his Instagram account to relay these messages to his fans, it would seem that Instagram will be the one social media platform on which he will remain. But of course, you want to make sure that you’re following his official Instagram account with the blue check, @ryanpaevey. Anyone else is a scammer who could be trying to take advantage of you.
